HOLY MOSES

Early Years Holy Moses were formed in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, on 1980. The band’s first line-up was formed by bassist Ramon Brüssler, drummer Peter Vonderstein and guitarist Jochen Fünders during high school, the latter of whom also handled the band’s vocals. This line-up played its first live show only four days after its formation, and released a demo titled Black Metal Masters in the same year. Vonderstein and Fünders left the group in 1981, and were replaced by drummer Paul Linzenich, vocalist Iggy, and guitarist Andy Classen from the local group Desaster. In Read more...

NUCLEAR ASSAULT

Nuclear Assault are among thrash metal’s most socially aware groups, making room for serious subject matter (and occasional goofs) in their careening speed metal riffing. They also remained closer to the world of hardcore than most of their peers, and at their late-’80s peak released some of the most uncompromising thrash metal offerings of the time including “Survive” in 1988, and at the peak of their career “Handle with Care” in 1989. After performing on Anthrax’ 1984 debut Fistful of Metal, bass player Dan Lilker was canned because of issues Read more...

FALCON BIOGRAPHY

Written by Perry Grayson Guitarist PERRY GRAYSON (ex-DESTINYS END, ex-ARTISAN, ISEN TORR) envisioned a ’70s style heavy rock project for years, and he finally found the time to start work on it in 2002. The band is called Falcon, and the sound is a total throwback to what was heavy in 1971. “I’ve been talkin’ about this for years, even before I left Destiny’s End,” says Perry. “I’m a huge fan of bands like Pentagram, Buffalo (Australia), Trapeze, Dust, Captain Beyond, Budgie, Bang, Thin Lizzy, Mountain, BOC, etc.—and I’ve had these song ideas floating Read more...

VOIVOD

Anomaly. Seminal. Iconoclasts. A “band’s band”. These are the nebulous words that sum up a group of artists now in their third decade of collaboration and creation. These terms are yokes that Voivod must bear. Yet there is a purity in this fate that will live forever. What were the odds in the first place? Four young men in Quebec, addled by art, high on hash, fueled by Venom and Motorhead. Post-heavy metal, pre-MTV. The 80s were upon them and the threat of nuclear war seemed almost inevitable. Why not live out the endtimes sipping absinthe, writing music, and donning Read more...

HADES

Hades first released their now classic speed metal debut “Resisting Success” in 1987. The band broke up after completing a European tour in 1989, a year after releasing their sophomore effort “If At First You Don’t Succeed”. After the breakup, vocalist Alan Tecchio moved to Austin, Texas to join prog rockers Watchtower for a year. In 1990 he reunited with guitarist Dan Lorenzo in his new band Non-Fiction. Non-Fiction recorded 3 full lengths and toured the U.S. and Europe extensively before their breakup in 1995. Interestingly, Hades released a reunion cd Read more...

HOLY TERROR

Mike Alvord: “The band was formed (created) by Kurt.  What year?  I have no idea.  But in August of 1985, he hooked up with ex-Dark Angel drummer Jack Schwartz (boy are there stories to tell about Jack.) Anyway, I knew Jack since I was about 12 years old.  He eventually asked me to jam with him, Kurt and Floyd.  Kurt initially wanted Juan Garcia from Agent Steel.  I don’t remember what was up with Juan.  I think he didn’t want to leave Agent Steel at the time.  I jammed with the three of them and the next thing I knew, I was part of the band.  It definitely Read more...

SANCTUARY

Sanctuary, formed in Seattle in 1985, was a discovery of Megadeth guitarist Dave Mustaine. He helped get the band signed to CBS/Epic Records, produced their first album, and took them on the road with Megadeth. The band consisted of vocalist Warrel Dane, guitarists Lenny Rutledge and Sean Blosl, bassist Jim Sheppard, and drummer Dave Budbill; after their second album, Sanctuary disbanded, with Dane and Sheppard going on to form Nevermore. ATTACKER

.. ..ATTACKER: The Lords of Thunder! .. Formed in the summer of 1983, ATTACKER is one of the first Heavy Metal bands to use the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien as a source of inspiration. An awakening that, eventually, would become the now classic “Battle At Helm’s Deep” album. In recent times, the band has enjoyed one the best comebacks to ever occur in many years! The band has now come, quite literally, full circle and is back where they belong.
