BEHEMOTH – THE SATANIST ALBUM REVIEW

After five years since the latest release and Nergal’s serious health issues with a long cancer treatment, Behemoth is back again with “The Satanist” which is a perfect title for this release. Behemoth has been in the black/death scene since the formation but evolved from traditional black metal to a more death metal style in time. This album can be rated a death metal release and marks Behemoth’s direction into a more atmospheric and experimental world. In their 10th full length release, they reflect their passion to the listeners and The Satanist” is a real challenge to Read more...

SKULL FIST “CHASING THE DREAM” REVIEW

So…this is the highly awaited album of 2014, the second full length release of Skull Fist; Canadian speed quartet. Their debut release, Head öf the Pack is widely accepted as a perfect album and gained extremely good reviews from the fans and critics. Making the debut with an excellent release can be both an advantage and a risk for the bands. Here, I believe that this is a disadvantage for Skull Fist; the expectations are really high and repeating what you’ve done before may not be enough. Skull Fist is a rarity among its contemporaries; they are fast, energetic, full of energy Read more...

AXEL RUDI PELL – INTO THE STORM ALBUM REVIEW

My interest for European style power metal, mainly German Power Metal began to grow in the recent years. I am mainly a US Metal fan -thrash and US power- and I can rate German power (and the likes) as easy listening. However, although I still think so, the greatness of German power lies in its sense of good rhythms and catchy melodies. The rhythm and melody based heavy metal has increasingly left its place to a straightforward and riff based style. So, I think my interest in German Power is related with this longing for good melodies. So, nowadays I am looking more positive to these types Read more...

METAL CHURCH – GENERATION NOTHING REVIEW

After a 5 years break, Metal Church is back with Generation Nothing released from Rat Pak Records. To start with, Metal Church has always been among my top bands list although I lost interest in the band for the last almost 20 years. In fact, my latest favorite release was Blessing in Disguise released in 1991 and the last high-class release was, I believe, Hanging in the Balance released in 1993. So, although I think Metal Church has been one of the major cornerstones of US Metal, their production for the last 20 years were not very impressive. This is their 4th release with Ronnie Munroe Read more...

BLITZKRIEG – BACK FROM HELL

The new release of Blitzkrieg was a surprise to me as I did not know that they were working on a new stuff as Satan also released a new album in 2013. As the mastermind of both Satan and Blitzkrieg, Brian Ross is one of my all-time heroes. I believe that Satan’s Life Sentence is release is one of the best records of the 2000s and will take its place in metal history as a classic. When we come to Blitzkrieg, I have very mixed thoughts on this release and I am not sure how to rate it. To start with, the cover is a little too amateurish, or more like a cover of a demo tape. I know that the Read more...

CHASTAIN – SURRENDER TO NO ONE

The new album of Chastain was a long time awaited gem for true metal fans. The picture was very exciting as we saw ¾ of the line-up being re-united after 25 years. The last album with Leather Leone, For Those Who Dare was released in 1990. After 23 years, David Chastain and Leather Leone came together to release a new album. Leather Leone is a very exceptional and strong voice in metal and is very distinctive from other female voices. I have to admit that my expectation was very high for this album, as many true metal fans, I missed the voice of Leather Leone. The album starts with Read more...

PAGAN ALTAR – JUDGEMENT OF THE DEAD

Pagan Altar is mainly classified as a NWOBHM band mostly as they emerged during the blast of this great genre. However, at first listen, you understand that there is something exceptional here. The music is doom influenced but also highly different from a regular doom band. It is really hard to explain the style but when you listen, it catches you. It is really strange that Pagan Altar remained obscure for so many years. Their first release, Volume I was dated 1982 and they recorded their second album in 2004. After 2004, they released an EP and their 3rd release, Mythical & Read more...

MEDIEVAL STEEL – DARK CASTLE

US Metal veterans Medieval Steel came back to work in 2012 and appeared at some live shows after a rest of long years. First, their legendary songs came into surface with the compilation”The Anthology of Steel”. Now, the Band is back with a new album which will be their first full length album since 1982. I had the opportunity to get the album at their show in Athens. The Band prepared 200 cd’s which are signed and packed only for this show. So, we, a few fans, are the first to hear this album in full. There are 11 songs in this album and as a starting comment, i can say Read more...

BASTILLE – ELECTRIC ANIMATION

I don’t find it meaningful to write or read reviews of reissues or compilations. But, in the case of Bastille, if this compilation stands as the only regular release of the band, this is worth reviewing. Bastille is a lyrical US progressive power metal band that was formed in the late 80s and disbanded a few years later releasing just a few demo songs and an album (only on tape) called Electric Animation (1991). This re-issue includes this album along with their first demo tape and a live bonus track, remastered. (stole this part from http://label.noremorse.gr/) There are 15 songs Read more...

MEDIEVAL STEEL – THE ANTHOLOGY OF STEEL

Medieval Steel is a true legend which deserves to be so. For many years, Medieval Steel were just a youtube video for me. Lacking the recordings, i was a Medieval Steel fan following them on digital copies. The band has risen again in 2012 and the fans had the chance to see them live on stage at Keep it True. They also scheduled two shows in Athens&Cyprus for November. So, the year 2013 was very productive for the band with some live apperances and the finishing of the new album; The Dark Castle. The album will be released during the shows in Athens&Cyprus next week. Medieval Steel Read more...
